Background Information:

The Tennessee School Boards Association (TSBA) has recommended a change to Board Policy #5.201 – Separation Practices for Non-Tenured Teachers, and this change reflects the latest legislative action. The Board’s current policy is included for your reference. Simply stated, Public Chapter 798 changed the date by which teachers should be notified of their dismissal or failure for reelection to the new school year from April 15 to May 15. The only change to the policy strikes the word “April” and replaces with the word “May” on page 2, line 31.

Staff Recommendation:

I agree with the above-noted amendment to Board Policy #5.201 and recommend approval on first reading.
